Meeting with Quetta Civil Society Organizations & Private Sector, Wednesday 19 November 2014, Serena Hotel, Quetta

By | November 19, 2014

The ADB held its country partnership strategy (CPS) meeting with civil society organizations which comprised of NGOs, think tanks, academia and private sector in Quetta on Wednesday 19 November.  Around 30 individuals attended this very informative and robust meeting.  ADB received much critical feedback especially on its energy sector program.  It was pointed out that while the ADB focus has been on energy one cannot tell this from the individual level where energy loadshedding has continued even as prices have shown a persistent upward movement. Furthermore, government has not tackled the deeper issue of line losses or kunda lines due to political interferences and in the past 6 years prices have gone from 3 cents to 13 cents crushing the individual consumer. In addition, participants pointed out that the Adb strategy seems very generic and the same is being applied all over the country. Provinces have different issues and should have specific policies that deal with them separately. They wanted to know how the ADB was engaging with the provincial governments and asked for Balochistan government in particular to be technical assistance on capacity building in the province.
